Hurricane Football: My Thoughts on Randy Shannon's Firing

I have been up most of the night. The "miami-hurricanes" list I created to follow everyone with any possible affiliation to The U on Twitter has been a'flutter about Randy Shannon's departure. Facebook's "The University of Miami", "The U" & "All Canes Campus Blog" pages have also had some (mostly) decent conversation about the man. I have tried to make my voice heard as well with who I'd like to see as the next head coach. So far, only a few takers are following my movement on twitter, but I hope there will be more:

A few highlights:

Sinorice Moss chimed in with a nice tweet about Shannon:

We certainly had the talent...these are from Rusty Medearis's YouTube Channel:
2) Lamar & Storm in split backs...anyone?
3) Hankerson's career @ UM wasted...I hope he gets drafted by a Super Bowl contender.

Anita Marks (Sports Chick, sometimes co-host on the South Florida a.m. airwaves) and I had a few exchanges, and she agrees -- but only wonders if 4 years was enough (read the "tweet longer" stuff backwards).

...and nobody wanted to watch:
Canes attendance Saturday: 26,369. Smallest home crowd since Larry Coker's final home game (23,308) vs. BC on 11-23-06

So, the Shannon Era has come and gone. We say goodbye to a coach who has devoted half his life to UM Football. That should not be taken lightly. I respect the MAN, but the COACH just did not get it done.

Then, I took a trip down memory lane to watch what I'm hopeful happens again in my lifetime: The glory of 2001 @ FSU...I was there...what a trip! Look at how well all of THAT "talent" performed!

Then, this morning, I woke up to finish this blog entry and Lamar Thomas chimed in with a farewell tweet to Shannon

So...I'm everywhere & nowhere all at once with regard to the current state of "U" football. I feel numb. I watched, far from home, as we lost to a team that didn't even have a football team half the time Ex-Coach Shannon was the "D" Coordinator! Pathetic. Disgusting. Horrible. You choose the degradation of choice to describe losing to USF. I put it right there with Va. Tech losing to James Madison earlier in the year. It NEVER should have happened.

In summary, Gruden is the coach I want, and I don't care that we can't afford him...MAKE IT HAPPEN. Yeah, I'm drinking the Kook Aid because he won a Super Bowl, sue me. I want someone as head coach this time that has that "wow"-factor. Gruden has the fire -- and certainly the mean face -- needed to be a motivator of young men. He'd do just fine. Don't give me some crappy retread like Petrino, Schiano, or Richt.

Regardless of what happens, I'll be there to watch it unfold...'CANE FOR LIFE!

Why Dogs Don't Like HALLOWEEN (viral e-mail)

You may have seen this before, but the timing of this viral e-mail in my inbox couldn't have been much better...

Starting to feel the holidays...

I always love the time of year when you start to "feel" the holidays coming. My Mom's annual dogs & cat holiday card is always the one I look forward to most, and she's already started working on it. Meet: Lizzy (Keishound / Chow mix), Hopper (White Poodle capable of leaping small buildings) and Rowdy (The Wildcat)...and, yes, the poodle is humping the cat in the final picture, go figure:

One Sheet of Paper (viral e-mail)

This viral e-mail first started making the rounds in 2008 or earlier. Today, I received another copy of it, but I didn't have a blog in 2008. So, I decided to pass on the truth about this paper art born of one sheet of paper -- as well as credit another blogger who got it right:

"I really feel the need to set this straight. There was never an exhibit of this type at the Hirshorn. And all that beautiful work is the art of one talented man, Denmark born Peter Callesen." -- From the "If It's Hip, It's Here" blog

Hey Apple! YOU APPholes!!!

Yeah, that's right... APPholes!!!

Jon Stewart is an admitted Apple Fanboy, but he gives 'em a thorough bashing here, and I agree 100%:

...And the Pearl Jam Fan Club Records are Spinnin'!

I finally purchased a turntable. Now, I can take advantage of a backlog of 10 YEARS of Pearl Jam fan Club records that have come to me as part of my annual membership package. Not to mention, the turntable interfaces with my PC via USB 2.0, so I can make high quality mp3s from each record. Excellent, and thanks @PearlJam.

Gmail Drag & Drop File Attachments

Gmail has made drag and drop file attaching just incredibly easy. Check out the video I created, and yeah, it takes about that long to attach a file!

My next request is dragging and dropping into the body of the e-mail to embed images. Surely, that's coming soon.
